My Child is Struggling - Now What?
A child who has difficulty learning and functioning in the classroom and has been identified as a special needs student is a candidate for an Individualized Education Program (IEP). However, those who struggle in school may or may not qualify for support services. If your child qualifies for help they will be entitled to receive instruction in a specific, often individualized manner. These struggles include but are not limited to (Specific) Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Emotional Disorders, Cognitive Challenges, Autism, Speech or Language Impairment, Communication Difficulties, Developmental Delays, or Physical Disabilities.
In most cases, these IEP services are all provided in a standard school environment. Children who need more than that may be supported in a specialized setting. Your child may fit into one of these special categories and navigating the IEP process can be a daunting and frustrating experience. Integral Connections is available to support you through this process. If it’s time to take steps towards getting your child the support they need and deserve, let us partner with you to get that started. We can explain the IEP process and assist you as you meet with the school. Connecting with the ESS Team at any school is a crucial relationship and one that requires trust and communication. Miriam McGill and Maureen Connelly are highly knowledgeable in the IEP process and related state regulations which govern the schools.
Integral Connections maintains it is vital to see the whole child, not just the disability or illness. It is also important to offer support for what children with exceptional needs can do, so as to reduce restrictions on their participation and maximize their opportunities for success. This promotes ways of valuing and including all children.
