Reading Skills
Reading is a critical and essential skill and is considered the foundation for overall academic success. Solid literacy skills are a confidence booster for young students. An emphasis on reading helps develop higher levels of focus, concentration, critical thinking, and memory skills. Growth in these areas will resonate with students throughout the rest of their lives. Integral Connections’ one-on-one or small group lessons with Miriam, our Special Education Teacher, will foster strong reading skills in learners from kindergarten to sixth grade.
Miriam’s Reading Skills sessions are highly customized and adapt to your learner’s skill level, personal learning goals, progress, and pace. Integral Connections offers reading support as well as accelerated reading instruction to meet advanced needs with a challenging reading curriculum. Phonological/Phonemic Awareness and Phonics
One of the strongest predictors of reading success in the early grades and beyond is a student’s level of phonemic and phonological awareness demonstrated near kindergarten age. Partner with Integral Connections to make sure your child starts off on the right foot and shows readiness for school expectations. We provide multi-sensory lessons in phonological and phonemic awareness, listening skills, phonics, and early reading acquisition. A solid phonics foundation and an understanding of the architecture of words develops confident readers. If you have a child who is struggling or excelling in this area, early intervention and support is key. Each child approaches learning with their own unique background.
Written Expression and Spelling
Writing is a fundamental method of communication. It gives voice to our inner thoughts and allows us to share them. Writing focuses students on phonics, comprehension, mechanics, developing their voice or perspective, and communicating this perspective to others. Integral Connections covers all the basic skills of writing: spelling, sentence development, response to comprehension questions, English Language Conventions, editing, purpose, reporting, inferring, relevance, and expanded writing.
For intermediate and advanced learners, we include sentence analysis, clarity, making persuasive arguments, passage writing, multi-paragraph writing, vocabulary, descriptions, grammar, deductions, reasoning, and writing extensions. Our learning options are always flexible and highly customizable. We design learning opportunities to remediate, enrich, and accelerate progress while providing adequate challenges.
